  • The course equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to advise on appropriate emergency planning, making them familiar with all aspects of building fire safety.

(NSW Fire Safety Officer min. for NSW - 6 units)

  • Completion of this skill set meets the minimum requirements to be qualified and act as Fire Safety Officer (NSW Healthcare Policy Directive PD2010_024).

 


PUAWER001 Identify, prevent & report potential workplace emergency situations.

  • This unit covers the competency required to identify and prevent the development of workplace emergency situations, or to minimise their consequences, and to report if emergency protection systems, emergency control equipment and evacuation systems are compromised.




PUAWER002 Ensure workplace emergency prevention procedures, systems & processes are implemented

  • Implement workplace emergency prevention procedures within a workplace or a defined group of workplace. This unit has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies and workplaces as considered in AS 3745-2010 (Planing for emergencies in facilities).




PUAWER003 Manage and monitor workplace emergency procedures, equipment and other resources

  • Manage and monitor workplace emergency prevention and control structures for a complex workplace or a defined group of workplaces. This unit has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies and workplaces as considered in AS 3745-2010 (Planing for emergencies in facilities)




PUAWER004 Respond to workplace emergencies

  • The skills & knowledge required to provide preparation for an emergency situation, report potential and real emergencies, respond and evacuate from a work area.




PUAWER005 Operate as part of an emergency control team

  • The competency required to implement the emergency response specified in the workplace emergency procedures or specified by a person at a higher level in the emergency control organisation.

  • People who undertake this work will be working within the command, control and coordinate structure of the emergency control organisation. This unit has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies and workplaces considered in AS 3745-2010 (Planing for emergencies in facilities).




PUAWER006 Lead an emergency control organisation

  • Make decisions about people's safety during a workplace emergency & give instructions on the priority order for responding to the emergency incident area. This unit has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies & workplaces considered in AS 3745-2010 (Planing for emergencies in facilities).



PUAWER007 Manage an emergency control organisation

  • Covers the broad range of emergencies & workplaces as in AS 3745-2010.  The application of this unit includes all employees in the workplace who have a functional management role in the emergency control organisation.




PUAWER008 Confine small workplace emergencies

  • Small workplace emergencies may include such incidents as a small fire that can be controlled using a nearby fire extinguisher; or a chemical spill that can be controlled using workplace personal protective clothing, equipment, a small spill kit or a workplace vehicle accident where there is no significant injury or damage.

Available courses

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • The skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. Is developed for existing workers who may require CPR training as recommended by the ARC. It is recommended this unit be renewed every 12 months in line with industry standards.

 



HLTAID003 Provide first aid

  • The skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. Applies to all workers who may provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community & the workplace.

 



HLTAID004 Provide emergency first aid in an education and care setting

  • The skills & knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children & adults.  Applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic & anaphylactic emergencies. This unit of competency has been approved by ACECQA and meets the requirements of "First Aid, Asthma & Anaphylaxis".

 



HLTAID005 Provide first aid in remote situation
Applies to workers who may be required to prepare for & provide a first aid response in locations beyond the reach of timely medical assistance.



HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid

  • The skills & knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response, including management of the incident & other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. 
     



HLTAID007 Provide advanced resuscitation

  • Applies to workers who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex situations, include community and workplace settings.
     




HLTAID008 Manage first aid services and resources

  • The skills & knowledge required to establish, maintain & facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace. Applies to workers in nominated occupational first aid or management roles.

  • Provides a set of skills to establish, maintain & facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in a workplace environment includes:

This unit relates to the use of adrenaline auto-injecting devices.  Covers the recognition, management, prevention & risk minimisation strategies related to allergic reactions & anaphylaxis.
